Run through this list before you buy. It prevents the most common install issues.

The 10 checks

  1. Case space: GPU max length/height; number of slots available.

  2. PSU capacity: recommended wattage + connectors required by the chosen model.

  3. CPU balance: your processor won’t bottleneck your target FPS/resolution.

  4. Motherboard slot: one open PCIe x16 (full‑length) slot.

  5. Cooling & airflow: at least one intake + one exhaust fan; no cable obstruction.

  6. Monitor I/O: HDMI/DP on the card matches your display; cables rated for 4K/144 or 1440p/240 if needed.

  7. Physical support: heavy triple‑fan cards may need a support bracket.

  8. OS & drivers: up‑to‑date Windows and chipset drivers; admin rights to install GPU drivers.

  9. Power path quality: use direct, dedicated PCIe power leads from the PSU; avoid daisy‑chain.

  10. Keep packaging: retain all accessories and the box for returns or RMA.
